Do this to avoid sabotaging your progress this summer:
May 18, 2025
I had a check in call with one of my clients a few days ago, and we talked about how much more his schedule is ramping up, now that summers approaching.
Birthday parties, sporting events, weddings, and work travel to boot. The summer time, and the 'holiday season' are the two WORST times of the year for maintaining your progress in your fat loss & health.
With us being a couple of weeks from June, I figured it was important to provide some 'guard rails' to not only tread water, but CONTINUE to make progress as you're enjoying the summer season w/ your family & friends.
#1. Daily workouts.
The reason so many fall off track this time of year, is because they can no longer stay perfect in their routines. Ad a week or two off track, from something you have not yet established as part of your identity, can be detrimental. I like the focus on doing SOME type of training for 2 reasons:
- planning to do SOMETHING daily, even if it's just a 10 minute workout, makes it much more likely that you'll exit the summer time doing an average of 2-4 workouts a week. That can sustain you. But if you plan for 2-3, you probably end up getting 0-1 in.
- you stay connected to your health goals. Our brain essentially resets daily, and we need to feed it things that affirm the new direction we wanna move in. You'd be surprised how much even just a 10 minute run or ab workout, will influence subsequent nutritional decisions.
#2. Don't do 2 'bad' meals in a row.
I get it. Not many options at the concession stand at your kids AAU tournament. And you can't really convince your coworkers to eat at Chopt or Sweetgreen on the work trip. BUT, you can make the best possible choice you have. Leanest protein you can find. Fruit or veggie on the plate every time. Don't double carb.
Food 'rules' like these will keep you in line, without stressing you out. Very necessary balance for actually enjoying your life AND getting your body in shape.
5 full months is a long time to stay consistent toward your health goals. I don't wanna see you give that all back in 3 months. Implement what I just discussed up above & you'll probably get through your first summer in YEARS looking & feeling better than you started it.
See you next week.
